Introduction to Waste Management Legislation

Following discussions with a number of Councils and Private sector clients, Gordon Mackie Associates Ltd in partnership with Albion Environmental Ltd have developed an introductory course for Waste Managers and operational staff.
This two-day course is designed to provide a basic understanding of the legislation relating to the waste industry and provide background knowledge and understanding for WAMITAB candidates.
The Course has been designed for those who are new to the industry, and anyone starting or completing WAMITAB COTC. It would also be suitable for experienced managers who require to be kept abreast of recent changes.

Objective of the course
- To provide delegates with evidence of the knowledge & understanding aspects required for most units of WAMITAB’s Certificate of Technical Competence (COTC’s)
- To provide delegates with a basic understanding of the main elements of the Environmental Protection Act 1990
- To provide delegates with an understanding of the practical aspects surrounding:
- The Definition of Waste
- The Duty of Care
- Registration of Carriers
- Special Waste Regulations
- Transport of Wastes (Including Dangerous Goods)
- To provide delegates with a basic understanding of the relevant parts of The Health & Safety at Work Act 1974

- Newcomers to the Waste Industry or those who are responsible for waste management within their organisation
- Anyone who requires an update on current waste legislation issues
- Candidates undergoing WAMITAB COTC Qualifications

Confirmation of Learning
Confirmation of learning is achieved throughout the course by completion of course exercises.
Qualification
Candidates who successfully complete the course will receive a certificate and details of the relevant sections of the WAMITAB awards that have been covered during the course.
Cost
The Course is a two-day residential course with a cost of £635 + VAT per delegate; this includes accommodation, lunches and dinner. (A non-residential price is available on request.)
There is 10% discount for existing clients of Gordon Mackie Associates or for those organisations taking three or more places.
